New Investigator Award

2025
This year’s award goes to Dr. Dimitrios Tzioutzios of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Tzioutzios’s research explores how sociodemographic factors shape public interest in Natech risk information. In a 2021 article in IDRIM Journal, drawing on data from Japan and South Korea, and using the Situational Theory of Problem Solving, he examined how age, gender, income, and education affect motivation to seek and share information about Natech risks. Across his growing list of publications, Dr. Tzioutzios’s scholarship has advanced both theory and practice, strengthening the bridge between serious games, community engagement, and disaster risk management.

About the IDRiM Journal Awards

Article of the Year Award

The Article of the Year Award is selected based on criteria that include originality of the work, contribution to the field, and expected impact to society. All authors in the prior calendar year of the conference (for example, June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024) are automatically considered.

Landmark Article Award

The Landmark Article Award is given to the most cited paper in the IDRiM Journal. Eligibility: author(s) of an article published in IDRiM Journal that has reached a minimum of 50 citations via Google Scholar and/or ISI Web of Science.

New Investigator Award

This award recognizes outstanding contributions by early-career researchers in the field of integrated disaster risk management who have published innovative scholarship that advances theory, practice, or policy in disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response, or recovery. Eligible recipients include researchers within five years of their terminal degree, who have published high-quality work in IDRiM Journal. Selection is based on the originality, rigor, and potential impact of their research. By highlighting emerging scholars, this award fosters the next generation of leaders dedicated to interdisciplinary, evidence-based approaches to integrated disaster risk management and implementation science.
